This Civil War Colt saw service on both the Union and the Confederate side of the War.  It’s a U.S issued pistol with all the proper government inspector initials and two cartouches (though weak) on the grips . The cylinder retains about 80-85% of it’s naval scene.  Over all condition is very good with sharp edges and lettering with a deep brown even patina.  All the serial numbers match and the action locks up tight but has a weak half cock.  The best part is the pistol was inscribed on the backstrap "Lt. John H. Lee  C S A".  According to the Natl.’ Archives records there was only one Confederate Lt. with that name and he served in the 49th Va. Infantry.  He was WIA and saw action in some of the bloodiest battles such as 2nd Manassas, Gettysburg, Cold Harbor etc. Please refer to the cover sheet for some of the others.  Whether Lt. Lee was in the U.S Army before the war and was issued this pistol or he captured it after the war broke out is unkown. But what is known IS that he carried it throught out the war.  A nice pistol with some great history.
