A really exceptional condition 2nd model Smith & Wesson Schofield in rare factory nickel finish.  It's a military issue pistol and has the proper military inspector intials on the bottom of the barrel flat.  Can't make out any cartouche on the grips because of the fine checkering but the interior serial number matches. The pistol retains almost all of it's original factory nickel finish and where missing it blends nicely .   It's case colors on the barrel release have turned to a mottled mousey grey. This pistol is a early 2nd model as the serials started at #3036 and this is #4096.  All the serial numbers match and all the mechanics operate as they should and it locks up tight.  I beleive this pistol was carried by an officer as the condition is super and the grips have been period professionally checkered. These 2nd models were mfg.'d in 1876-77 and saw much service in the Western Indian Wars. One of the best examples I've had the pleasure of owning.
