This neat rifle will come with a folder containing it's original auction house description and census bureau records. The census records state he was originally a Horse trader turned San Antonio Lawman. He was born in 1873 and died in 1943. The rifle is in pretty good shape with nice wood to metal fit.  It's missing it's nose cap screws and dust cover which are easily replaced but personally I'd leave it the way it is. Overall the rifle has an attractive blue brown patina.  It's a .38-40 cal. and was mfg'd. in 1894. The action works fine and the bore could use a cleaning but appears to have pretty good rifling.  The butt trap still retains it's original cleaning rods.  A honest piece with some neat Texas history.
