These Murdoch pistol are among the most handsome guns ever produced. John Murdoch was the armourer in Doune, Stirlingshire in the 1730-1740’s. His pistols were highly sought after by officer’s in the Highland regiments. This pistol is signed I O Murdoch on it’s lock. The barrel is three stage with a flaired muzzle, ramped fluted breech, and engraved with characteristic panels of scrollwork.  It has a three quarter length stock engraved with Celtic patterns. The ramshead butt is inlaid with silver over it’s entire surface with panels of foliage, scrollwork and border ornaments.  The silver ovals are vacant. The button trigger exhibits a four pedal engraved flower head. There are three engraved silver panels on the underneath of the pistol.  When found It was missing it’s ramrod which I’ve since found and added.. The pierced engaved belt hook is still present as is it’s original vent pick in the butt.  These pistols were used here in America during the Revolutionary War. This is a absolutely beautiful pistol.
