These Scottish Highland pistols are among the most handsome pistols ever produced. This pistol is the product of Thomas Murdoch who originally worked in Doune but after the Jacobite Rebellion in 1745 he migrated to the town of Leith. This pistol is signed T.Murdoch on the lock. It has a 5 " three stage barrel that is flared at the muzzle.  Which exhibits a ramped fluted breech and is engraved with characteristic panels of scroll work. The stock is the typical three quarter length with Celtic pattern engravings. The stock wrist has a silver oval panel as well as two silver panels on the underneath of the pistol. The ramshead butt stock still has it's original clean out pick.  These pistols were highly prized by the officer's of the Royal Highland Regiment, the 42nd Regt. of foot better known as the Black Watch .There is a pair of Thomas Murdoch pistols that are known to have been 'taken from the enemy' and bequeathed by 'Washington to Lafayette".
