Rev. War 1763 Charlevile w/Bayonet
Rev. War 1763 Charlevile w/Bayonet

A rare Rev.War musket in exceptionally fine condition.  Mdl. 1763 Charleville's are much harder to find then the more common mdl. 1766. This one is from the Mauberge French Armory and so marked on it's lock which also exhibits a U.S. Surcharge. The .69 cal. 44 7/8 barrel also exhibits a U.S Surcharge.  The musket was sent to our Continental Armory in Philadelphia for repair or just refurbishing . It bears the initials (IN) of  French Armory (Philadelphia} contractor John Nicholson on it's left butt stock. The right buttstock exhibits the initials (IP) of Joseph Perkins who was a contractor and eventually became the Armory Superintendent. The comb of the buttstock was shaved to facilitate aiming which is a typical American soldier motification. The musket comes with it's original bayonet.  These U.S surcharged French muskets were all  carried by soldiers in George Washington's Continental Army. A truly historic musket that was involved in the Birth of our Nation!
