I just acqiured this great sword from a old friend whose had it in his collection since he purchased it from Sothby's in the 1990's. I've included in my photo's the original description as it appeared in the auction. The sword is of American manufacture and exhibit's the makers mark IW in a sunken cartouche on it's cross guard . Col. Hay would have acquired this while he was stationed here during the American Revolutionary War. He participated in the Siege of Ft. Ticonderoga and the Battle of Saratoga. This was his personal Rev.War sword that he had inscribed and given to Capt.Erskine while they were stationed together in the West Indies 1793-1796. Unfortunately, Col. Hay died there in 1796 from wounds received at the Battle of Le Vigie in 1796. The sword itself is beautiful retaining most of it's original blue and gold finish with the exception of some mild oxidation in the area where the leather scabbard is gone. First time being offered for sale in 20+ years.
