Rev.War American Silver Hanger Sword
Rev.War American Silver Hanger Sword

American made Rev.War swords are exceedingly rare. This one is actually pictured in "American Silver -Hilted , Revolutionary and Early Federal Swords " by Daniel D. Hartzler. He describes it as: Silver hanger by Thomas Shields with a thimble pommel cap and a stirrup-shaped guard that is .076 inch in thickness,  hallmarked " TS " in Roman capital, in an oval and a tapering backstrap. The bone grip is hand turned due to the unevenness. There is a leather washer between the hilt and the straight , diamond-shaped blade with medium ridges on each side. Hilt: 5 1/4" .Total 35 1/4" . Thomas Shields was located on Front St. in Philadelphia. This wonderful sword saw action as there's evidence a blood pitting on the blade.
