This is one of the original 1200 '60 Colt army's that were converted to cartridge by Colt and then sent to the U.S govt in 1871. At the time S&W sent an equal amount of .44 Americans. These pistols were issued out to western cavalry units and subjected to very hard service.  Colt eventually won the contract and the mdl. 1873 S/A  was born and issued to all the troops. This pistol has obviously seen western service but for one of these is in very good shape. Most of these rare pistol have mixed serial numbers with matching assembly numbers. This pistol has the rare feature of matching serial numbers on the frame. trigger guard and the backstrap.  It has all matching assembly numbers and exhibits all the proper A (Ainsworth) and P inspector initials. The left barrel flat has the correct U.S with the proper A.  The cylinder exhibits  75 % scene with the proper A and P under the Patent line. The action is crisp and smooth with a good lock up .
