Civil War Perfume Keg
Civil War Perfume Keg

This is certainly a very unique items.  It's a perfume keg carved from horn. The old tag states that was given to Amanda Myers Schasyberger by a soldier in Gordon's Brigade Early's Division while on her farm East of York June (28,29,30) ? 1863. This was a very significant date as it was the eve of the Battle of Gettysburg.  We'll never know the reason for the gift. Was it just a act of kindness ? Or did the Rebel soldier have a premonition of what he was walking into the next day at Gettysburg. We know that Amanda lived out her life in York, Pa. and died in 1920 at the age of 75.  The fate of the Rebel Soldier will have to remain a mystery.
