'Joseph Jourdain' Pipe Tomahawk
'Joseph Jourdain' Pipe Tomahawk

This beautiful Pipe Tomahawk was formerly in the William Simon Collection. He was secretary of the Treasury in the Nixon and Ford adminisrations. I acquired it many years ago from a friend who was selling Simon's collection for the family after his death in 2000.  The hawk is the product of Joseph Jourdain and exhibits his trademark  moon and stars on the left side of the head. The obverse side has a flower motif.  The head is 7 1/4" x 3" and has two double silver inlays on either side. The original file branded haft is 23 1/2" and exhibits a beautful dark patina. I've included in my pictures a photo from John Baldwins book "The Pipe Tomahawk" which has one of these rare hawks described.  Joseph Jourdain  worked in Green Bay,Wisc. 1796-1834  then in Winebago Rapids from 1834-1866.  This is without a doubt one of the best one of these rare hawks ever offered for sale.
