This is really a great piece of Western history. The inscribed Bowie knife was originally given to "Hezekiah Bissell" by a Jack Mormon in 1868 ( a Jack Mormon was a Mormon who smoked and drank alcohol)  while he was working on the Union Pacific Rail Road.Bissell was the only Civil Engineer to stay on the job from start to finish.Probabily even rarer then the knife is Bissell's personnal photo album which contains many unpublished photo's of the building of the U.P.R.R. It also contains many pictures of the people involved in the laying of the R.R. including H.Bissell in his Military uniform,Gen.Dodge,Willis Thayer and his wife,Gen.Grant etc..Also,included is a thick folder on All these people and the building of the U.P.R.R  from start to finish. This Knife was handed down from Father to Son and then to Willis Thayer a U.P.R.R employee on Nov.26,1914.Willis Thayer is pictured in the photo album dressed in his U.P.R.R. uniform.
