The Confederacy imported quit a few of these Austrian carbines. This one is in relic condition and retains a very old tag stating" Rare Pill Box carbine of transition period between Flintlock and percussion ignition system. European gun few of type used by Confederates in Civil War picked up at Gettysburg." Not sure what originally filled the hole in the stock but believe it was a box to hold the ignition pills for the lock. The right side of the buttstock hole is recessed for a lid. A really neat piece that's been in my personal collection for many years.
