This is a Long Land Pattern 1st mdl. Brown Bess that was altered to the Short Land Pattern with a 42" barrel for use by the   'Dragoons'.  The musket was captured by the Americans probabily in 1778 as the stock has '78' period carved in it next to the owners initials of BP. The opposite side of the stock has BP  and WH branded in it.  No British soldier would have done this as it was the Kings property and not his. The lock is signed  Edge 1762 and has the GR crown and broad arrow. The barrel exhibit much black powder pitting around the touchole and above so that only one British proof mark can be seen. At some time in it's life it had a brass nose cap added to the stock but still retain it's original wooden ramrod.  A really great  Revolutionary War musket.
