This wonderful patriotic fighting knife was formerly in the Stan Smullen collection and is featured in the " North South Traders Civil War magazine" Vol.35 #2 2010.  The article "Sword into Knife -A second Life" describes this knife as a War of 1812 period sword that was made into a fighting knife. The blade appears to have been sharpened and shaped with a file which would imply that it was done in the field rather than at a armory.  A copy of the article will go with the knife. The knife is 13# O/A with a 8"blade.  One side has "Liberty and Independ." and the obverse has "United States of America" with a razor sharp cutting edge.  The 10 faceted brass Eaglehead adds perfect balance to this great looking fighting knife.
