This beautiful Longarm is beleived to be the work of Jacob Dubs Jr. who immigrated from Switzerland in 1732 aboard the ship the"Dragon" and entered the Port of Philadelphia.  In 1734 he moved to Milford ,bought land and set up a Forge by a stream for power.  He built really high quality Longarms while there until his death in 1775.  Jacob Dubs was a man of peace but when the Indians made incursions into the Lehigh Valley,he joined the military company and chased them into the Blue Mountains. This longarm would qualify as one of his earlier works . It has a 56" barrel which is Octagon/Round separated by a weeding ban at 20". The O/A length of the gun is 6′.  It’s still retains it’s original front sight but is missing it’s rear sight.  The lock is the original Flintlock and stll works.  All of the stock carvings,of which there are many, are visible but very worn. The buttstock is 2" wide and the raised carving on the wrist and by the buttplate is still there but very worn.  The engraving on the brass furniture is top notch and is something he was noted for.  Unfortunetly the original ramrod has been broken but is still there.  I just picked this gun up from an old friend who’s had it in his collection for years.  Early Pennsylvania Longarms like this seldom come up for sale. This Longarm is totally untouched and has a great patina.
