This massive Bowie Knife was carried by a very brave man who lost his life at "The Wall" in Picket’s Charge. He was a member of the 11th Mississippi Co.A the University Grey’s who earned the special mark of fame by losing a 100% of their number in Picket’s Charge. The Knife has a 13" blade with a 5 1/4"handle. His name and unit are stamped on the brass crossguard underneath the leather grommet This is period exhibiting much age and patina. The original scabbard has "Taken at Gettysburg jULY 1863" written in 19th century yellow -gold paint that has browned out from age. Taken at Gettysburg would imply that the knife was taken personally after a fight to the death as a War Trophy . Historic items like this are seldom offered for sale. The only stipulation I have is that if the knife sells before the 150th anniversary next month I want to hold off shipping it until after the anniversary
