This is a pretty solid carbine with an overall nice patina. The stock is stamped "Bt. Genl. Taylor" on it’s left side and has considerable wear over the stamping from rubbing against the horse while being carried in it’s scabbard.  The mechanisms work fine and the bore is really good.
John P. Taylor enlisted on 8/10/61 as a Captain in the 1st Pa. Cav. was promoted to Lt. Col. on 9/15/62, Col. on 3/2/63 and Brig.Gen.by brevet on 8/4/65. He was wounded Cedar Mtn. and saw action at some of the Bloodiest Battles of the War to include Brandy Station, Bull Run , Fredericksburg, Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Aldie, Yellow Tavern, Cold Harbor, Malverne Hill, Sailors Creek, Appomattox Court House etc.  A very historic Spencer that was involved in a lot of heavy fighting.
