This is a 1796 British pattern pistol that was captured by the American forces and used by the New York City Militia and so marked N -N Y C -10.  This stands for Company N of the New York City Militia ,rack number 10. The pistol is in fine working order. It has an old repair to the forestock which I left alone as it’s an old glue job and no wood has been replaced.  New York City was a British goal of the War of 1812 and was on constant alert.  When the War broke out the Militia had 28,237 serviceable muskets, 636 serviceable artillery, 63 field pieces, 2699 swords and 3679 pr. of pistols.  Records show that the 3rd and 10th were quartered in their homes and drilled every morning from 6-8 and every afternoon fro 4-6.  The records will go with the pistol.  A neat historical weapon that served on both sides of the War.
